Sfinari

The village of Sfinari in Kissamos is a small traditional village, overlooking Sfinari bay. It is located 57 km southwest of Chania and it is built just exiting a green valley on the foothills of mount Koutroulis. The beach is unusual, both sandy and pebbly, making it thus uniquely beautiful. When windy, the beach trees, the pebbles and the wild waves are fascinating, as is the delicious seafood in the surrounding taverns.

The village’s few inhabitants deal mainly with farming, livestock, fishing and beekeeping during the winter, and the tourist industry during the summer. You can easily get familiar with Cretan cuisine and Cretan diet by tasting traditional dishes, made exclusively with the best local products. Cretan hospitality of course is always present to take your experience to another level.

The place is ideal for nature- lovers and quiet – family vacation people.

For those who are into water sports, Sfinari is one the best surf spots in Crete when the wind blows west. It also offers a unique scuba diving spot.

Excellent choices for local food and snacks next to the beach are the following taverns:

  • Captain Fidias
  • Thalami
  • Sunset
